TISICS is a UK SME developing and manufacturing silicon carbide fibre and fibre reinforced metal composites. This technology is currently being developed for civil aerospace, defence, space and the energy sector. TISICS was established in 2005 through a management team by-out of the technology from the UK defence research company QinetiQ. TISICS is one of two companies worldwide specialising in this technology, the other is based in America and focuses on defence.
This highly innovative company has an excellent track record in undertaking and exploiting the results of collaborative research projects, including the Innovate UK funded TiCCRaMM, AVLAM and Integrated Wing projects where the weight saving potential due to the specific properties of titanium composite have been demonstrated.
For example, in the Innovate UK funded IWATVP programme TSICS has successfully developed hydraulic actuator pistons and main leg brace bars yielding a 30% to 40% weight saving with improved corrosion resistance compared to conventional steel or aluminium parts. Recent developments at TISICS have focused on new applications within the space sector and on the introduction of aluminium alloy reinforcement into its portfolio of programmes.Visit Partner Website
